So why was I surprised when I discovered the sport of mountain biking has found a new home on the Internet? And not only a sport, but a whole, growing community and culture of pedaling fans that stretches over the world.
Returning to my self-imposed question, why was I shocked to see this? Likely because in my privately-held and biased opinion, I have always thought that freewheeling mountain bikers who spend their time going up and down hills riding their two-wheeled pedal machines would not have the resources nor the inclination to build a place on the internet. How incorrect I was. Mountain biking is actually getting more exposure on the web, and well-deserved exposure, I would add.
As I pointed out, I have proved that there's already a booming population of closely-knit communities of mountain bikers in cyberspace. A wide selection of subjects are being debated and presented at length in these communities, from brake levers to bike trails. And naturally, with the spurt of the e-commerce trend, it will not be evaded that shops catering to the specialised desires of mountain bikers have sprouted online too.
But is this a bad thing we are speaking about? Personally, I suspect not. The emergence of e-commerce has took along with it an unrivalled convenience and availability of products and services that your local bike shop will be hard-pressed to match. Unless, naturally, your local bike shop has established a web presence too. Fans and buyers are significantly benefiting from the big range of products that are freely available from almost anywhere in the world, through the Net. Whether you need to find the best price for that crankset you want, or you're trying to find the final mountain bicycle package, going surfing can be the simplest way to go.
You do not have to be a technical magician to enjoy internet shopping for your cycle gear. Are you attempting to find a selected product? Or maybe you just wish to see all available products from your favourite manufacturer? Web stores internet stores sometimes let you search for any item you would like using keywords. You may also find what you want by browsing the arranged classes of items. Do yourself a favor, buy a Trek mountain bike, they rock!
